  1. 01 · EVERY DAY

    Every day since September 22.

    One reading a day from the same 5,059 company job boards. On September 22, 12.84% of 218,008 open roles said remote. On October 30: 13.09% of 221,157.

    The share has stayed between 12.84% and 13.18% for 39 days. The high was 13.18% on September 25, the low 12.84% on September 22.

  3. 03 · BY COMPANY SIZE

    Small companies are where remote lives.

    On October 30, 17.7% of roles at small employers (5 to 49 open roles) said remote, up from 16.8% on September 22. Mid-size employers: 12.3%. Large employers, with 200 or more open roles: 10.5%.

  4. 04 · ZERO REMOTE

    Half of companies post no remote roles at all.

    2,106 of 4,209 companies have zero remote roles. Only 498 clear the 60% bar. These are panel companies with 5 or more open roles on October 30, grouped by the share of their roles that say remote.

    Canada: 12.5% and rising.

    Of 14,105 open roles in Canada, 1,767 say remote. The Canada share is 12.5%, up from 11.8% on September 22. Across all roles it went from 12.84% to 13.09%, so Canada sits 0.6 points below.

    What the Index is.

    1 in 8 open jobs is remote: 13.09%. The Index is the share of open roles that say remote on a fixed panel of 5,059 company job boards, read three times a day since September 22, with each day's last read counted. A role counts only when the employer's own location text says remote, and new boards never join the panel, so when the number moves, hiring moved.

METHODOLOGY

How the Index is built

  1. 01The same 5,059 company job boards every day since September 22, chosen because we read them on at least 35 of 39 days. On October 30, 5,024 of them were read.
  2. 02Recruiting agencies are removed, so every board belongs to the employer hiring.
  3. 03A role counts as remote only when the employer's own location text says so. Hybrid never counts.
  4. 04Boards are read three times a day, and the day's last read is used.
  5. 05New boards never enter the panel, so a change in the Index is a change in hiring, not in what we read.
