01 · The business

Subscriptions for care homes, plus data for hospitals and plans.

PointClickCare sells a cloud health record and billing system to skilled nursing and senior living operators. Since buying Collective Medical it also sells care-coordination data to hospitals and health plans. Outside apps pay a monthly fee per facility to connect. It says it serves 30,000+ provider organizations and has 400+ integration partners. It does not publish revenue or a split.

A court said its bot blocking was likely illegal.

The Fourth Circuit upheld an injunction for rival Real Time Medical Systems. PointClickCare conceded indecipherable CAPTCHAs facially count as information blocking under the Cures Act; about 700 facilities were locked out in 2023.

A merits fight is still pending. A loss could cost money and limit how tightly it controls access to data on its platform.

New paid rules for outside access.

This is a revenue line and a control point. Given the court case, regulators and rivals will watch it closely.
