Pay-by-the-second GPU rental for AI builders.
Runpod rents GPU and CPU machines (Pods), serverless endpoints that scale to zero, and multi-node GPU clusters for training. Billing is pay as you go, by the second. It does not own most of its hardware: early capacity came from the founders' own servers, then revenue-share deals with data centers. Enterprise contracts add SSO, invoicing and one agreement across products. No revenue split is published.

ARR nearly tripled in nine months.
Runpod, Oct 13, 2026; Runpod, Jan 20, 2026Runpod said ARR passed $325M on Oct 13, 2026, up from $120M in January, when it reported 90% yearly growth.
Very fast growth for an infrastructure company. ARR is an annualized rate, and Runpod does not explain how it computes it.

Reported: it turned down buyout offers.
TNW citing The Information, Jun 24, 2026The Information reported, as cited by TNW, that Runpod rejected offers of more than $500M to stay independent.
Founders keen to stay independent. For staff equity, that means no near-term exit date from a sale.

Developer counts do not line up.
Runpod, Jan 20, Apr 30 and Oct 13, 2026Runpod's January 2026 release said more than 1 million developers; its April release said over 750,000; October said 1.2 million, up from about 495,000 a year earlier.
Likely different definitions of a developer. Treat user counts as marketing, and ARR as the better measure.

It relies on other firms' data centers.
TechCrunch, Jan 16, 2026Runpod built capacity through revenue-share deals with data centers rather than owning them. Co-founder Pardeep Singh said user sentiment changes without enough GPUs.
Asset-light keeps debt off the books, but in a GPU crunch it competes for supply with far bigger clouds.

Moving up to enterprise buyers.
Runpod, Sep 24, 2026; Runpod, Oct 13, 2026In September 2026 Runpod added organizations, SSO, cost-center billing and invoicing, and got ISO 27001 on top of SOC 2 Type II. Named customers include Sony, Toyota and Intel.
Big contracts tend to be stickier than hobbyist spend. Selling to them takes a different sales team.

What has to be true for $1 billion to hold?
The starting revenue is RunPod's own reported figure. A way to think, not a forecast, and not investment advice.
At 5x, RunPod needs $200 million of revenue to be worth $1 billion. Your world gets there with $637 million, so the next round likely prices above the last.
$100,000 of equity valued at the $1.00B Series A (growth) price would be worth about $318,500 on paper in this world, before dilution from new rounds, taxes and vesting. Private shares only turn into cash at a sale, an IPO or a tender offer.

Runpod, Jun 24, 2026; Runpod, Oct 13, 2026The signals, and which way they push.
- TailwindDemand for AI compute keeps climbing.
September 2026 was Runpod's biggest signup month, with over 95,000 new accounts, and ARR nearly tripled since January.
- TailwindAgents need bursty, scale-to-zero compute.
Runpod built Flash and its serverless line for agents that call models on demand, and serves over 10 million serverless requests a day.
- HeadwindA GPU shortage squeezes renters.
Runpod's own Fall 2026 compute report says developers are adapting to a GPU crunch. It rents capacity from partners, so supply costs can rise.
- HeadwindBigger, richer rivals.
CoreWeave had revenue above $5B last year, and AWS, Microsoft and Google sell GPUs too. Specialists such as Groq chase the same developers.
